The Spirituality of Prophets and Reconcilers

To what extent does the distinction between Prophets and Reconcilers have a spiritual basis?

  • A Prophet will typically seek a global treatment for a given situation, in the tradition of Biblical prophesy - "Thus saith the Lord".
  • A Reconciler will struggle to speak directly to that of God in each of the individuals involved.

The two approaches are complementary. Both are needed, often simultaneously. So it is right for a Prophet to boycott. It is right for a Reconciler to avoid coercion. Each has to respect the other's legitimate contribution.
Ponder the district of Sheik Jarrah in East Jerusalem as an instance of the Prophet/Reconciler dilemma.
